Alienation by Jon S. Lewis

Good evening, fellow bookworms! At least, I’m assuming that you’re a bookworm, seeing as you’ve come to a blog that is pretty much strictly for book reviews! Anyway, I’ve come here tonight to tell you all about this new book I’ve gotten: “Alienation” by Jon S. Lewis. Before I get started, though, I need to  let you know that I got this book for free from the Thomas Nelson Publishing Company through the Booksneeze Blogger program, in exchange for an honest review. Anything that I say is truly my opinion. Now that that is over, let me tell you about this amazing book. Now, to be quite honest, I’ve never really identified myself as a “comic book” person. My brother and father are, but I am not. So when I got this book, and saw that it was introduced with a comic, I must admit I was slightly leery. But when I actually got the prose, I was pleasantly surprised. The adrenaline-laced action scenes and exciting descriptions and dialogue made this book seem more like a graphic novel in prose. I was truly impressed, and if you like fast-paced reads or comic books, I would suggest this book. Four out of five stars!

Heaven is for real DVD based conversation kit

I received “Heaven is for real: DVD based conversation kit” recently from booksneeze- it was good. I enjoyed it. Before I get to far and forget, though- I need to say that I received this book and DVD set for free from the Thomas Nelson booksneeze program offered to bloggers. Whatever I say is my opinion and it how I really feel. Anyway- this was alright. In theory, it was a fantastic idea. The DVD had interviews from everyone and the book went along with them. But the family was extremely fake. Like, extremely, extremely fake. The kid sounded like he had rehearsed his lines and that what he had said was fed to him by his parents before the segments were taped. The mom and dad were both just super fake, and it made me sad. The stereotypical Christian family is generally seen as hoity-toity, fake people, and this family did nothing to break that view. But in theory, it was a good idea and it sparked some interesting conversations between me and some friends. I will probably pass this DVD along to someone who will actually enjoy it more than I did, but I think it will make them happy. I give this three out of five stars.

More Lost Than Found by Jared Herd

Hey there, guys! I’ve just ordered a new book from booksneeze, called “More Lost Than Found” by Jared Herd. But before I get started, I need to say that I received this book for free from the Thomas Nelson publishing company and I am under no obligation to give this book a good review. So, anyway, on with the show! I honestly enjoyed “More Lost Than Found” by Jared Herd. It flowed nicely and didn’t sound preachy- the way a lot of books like this can begin to sound after a while. But the thing that really got me hooked was the “Good isn’t Good enough” motto. When I say that, what I mean is- a lot of people who populate the church pews assume that just because they’re there warming the benches, they’re good. They don’t cuss, drink, steal, shoot up, hook up, or anything else bad, so they’re good. Right? But that’s not what God requires of us. No, He wants something deeper. God is not some suit that one can take on and take off as one wishes. He is not reserved for Sunday mornings only. No, God is a God that wants to walk with you; relate with you; sing, laugh, love, learn, live with you. And this book hones in on that- at least that’s how I felt. God wants so much  more for you then mediocrity, or what everyone else says is good enough. No, God has great things in mind for you- great plans and great love. Don’t refuse it. Grasp it! Grab God and He won’t let you go. He loves you. I promise.

The Baker's Wife by Erin Healy

Good evening! I’ve just received a new book from booksneeze- “The Baker’s Wife” by Erin Healy. Before I tell you about this awesome book, however, I need to tell you all that I got this book for free from the booksneeze blogging program, from the Thomas Nelson publishing company. I am under no legal obligation to give this book a good review. Anyway, I need to start off and say, I love Erin Healy. I ordered her book “The Promises She Keeps” from Borders (before it closed!! :’( But that’s a rant for another day) and I fell in love with her writing. I tell you what, “The Baker’s Wife” delivers! This book lassoes you in within the first paragraph and holds you tight until you’re through. When Audrey and her pastor husband get involved with a scandal, their lives are torn apart. Thrown down from the pulpit, they open a bakery. (Honestly, I didn’t see that one coming. Even with a title like, “The Baker’s Wife”. I mean, from pastor to baker? What?) So, anyway, pastor husband is killed in a car accident. This begins to unravel a mystery that upturns Audrey’s life. What happens?  You’ll just have to find out for yourself, now won’t you? I give this book five out of five stars.

Treasuring Emma by Kathleen Fuller

Hi guys! I’ve gotten a new book from booksneeze called “Treasuring Emma” by Kathleen Fuller. Before I get started though, I need to tell you all that I received this book for free from the Thomas Nelson publishing company through the booksneeze program, and I am under no legal obligation to give this book a good review. So whatever I say about this book is legitimately how I feel. Okay, so now, “Treasuring Emma” by Kathleen Fuller was a pretty good book. A well written Amish fiction book, “Treasuring Emma” hit home with me, mainly because the main character nearly always put others ahead of herself- even when it quite honestly wasn’t the brightest idea (at least in my own opinion). I deal with being a people pleaser, and honestly, seeing this inward struggle isn’t something I come across in my regular reading. It was kind of refreshing, seeing that someone else deals with this (even if they are fictional). But really that’s not what this story is about. This is about, in my own opinion, a girl who realizes she has worth. That touched me because that’s something I have struggled with in the past. As an Amish fiction book, I didn’t really get the message, but as an encouragement, I loved this book (if that even made sense) I would recommend this book to anyone who likes those sappy stories where the good guy winsJ
